Swansea Railway Station will come alive on Tuesday 2nd June as South West Wales Connected hosts a vibrant pop-up event from 11:00am to 1:00pm, bringing together local organisations, volunteers, and the public for a relaxed and welcoming gathering outside the station.
The event forms part of Community Rail Week, a national campaign celebrating the positive impact of community rail in connecting people and places across the UK. This year’s theme, “Journeys for All,” highlights inclusion, accessibility, and breaking down barriers to rail travel.
Alongside this, the event will also celebrate Pride and National Volunteers Week, while linking to wider themes of sustainability, wellbeing, and community safety, including Great Big Green Week and World Environment Day.
Visitors can also learn more about the recently launched “Swansea’s Best Kept Secret” audio walking tour. Available to download for free from VoiceMap, the immersive tour takes you on a 4km walking tour around Swansea, starting from the railway station, to discover its remarkable railway legacy and why this Welsh city deserves huge recognition as the birthplace of passenger rail travel.
On the day, visitors will be invited to take part in a sunflower planting activity, symbolising growth, community, and positivity, while discovering more about local initiatives and the benefits of rail travel.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Transport for Wales, Great Western Railway, Sadie’s Butterflies, and British Transport Police, promoting key messages around inclusion, safety, and community connection.
Donna from Sadie’s Butterflies said:
“We are excited to be part of a great community event organised by South West Wales Connected to showcase that our railway stations are a safe and welcoming place for everyone, and we are proud of our community.”
Whether you’re a regular rail user, a local resident, or just passing through, everyone is welcome to come along, get involved, and be part of the celebration.
