Could you be the next Chair of South West Wales Connected?

We’re looking for someone passionate about sustainable travel, community empowerment and local placemaking to help guide our Community Rail Partnership.

The Chair is a voluntary role that involves leading meetings, championing our work, and supporting our mission of Community. Rail. Partnership.

Elections will take place at our AGM on Thursday 18th September 2025 (Swansea Railway Station, 10am). If you’re interested, please get in touch by Friday 12th September to find out more, or simply put yourself forward on the day.

Together, we’re making rail travel more accessible, inclusive and connected across South West Wales.



Role of Chair of the Community Rail Partnership

The Chair plays a key role in:

  • Providing leadership to the Partnership and chairing meetings.

     

  • Acting as an ambassador for South West Wales Connected.
  • Supporting the staff team and host organisation in delivering the Activity Plan.
  • Upholding the values of the Community Rail Partnership and promoting the Four Pillars of Community Rail.

 

  1. Providing a voice for communities
  2. Promoting sustainable, healthy and accessible travel
  3. Bringing communities together and supporting diversity & inclusion
  4. Supporting social and economic development

 

This is a voluntary role requiring commitment, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in:

  • Sustainable tourism and public transport.

     

  • Community empowerment and placemaking.
  • Helping to create positive impact in communities along the railway line in South West Wales.

 

Election Process

  • The Chair is elected at the AGM for a term of one year, renewable up to three consecutive years.

     

  • The position will be advertised in advance and open to nominations from any member of the Steering Group.
  • Nominations may also be taken at the AGM.
  • If only one candidate is nominated, they will be appointed unopposed.
  • If no nominations are received, the host organisation (4theRegion CIC) may nominate a Chair to ensure continuity.
  • A Vice-Chair may also be elected if the Steering Group wishes.
